The two companies that I visited at the Career Fair on Wednesday, September 16, 2008, were Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, and Enterprise Rent-a-Car.
The questions I asked the companies were:
- How great are the salaries for someone working in the company?
- How happy are you with your position? And how does the company rank in competition to others?
Answers I got from the companies:
Hyatt Hotels & Resorts-
- "Depending on which positions are available, anything from $40,000 for a hotel manager position to $100,000 or more for a higher position like general manager."
- "I am satisfied with my position, and it has really opened up great opportunities for me. The hotel company has a lot of competition and is higher ranked among the other chains."
Enterprise Rent-a-Car-
- "The salaries can range but the average for a managerial position, which is what you are looking for, is around $60,000."
- "Having this job has really helped me get farther in my life, and it is a great beginning job. The competition is tight, there are a lot of rental car companies out there."
The hardest part of attending the career fair was the overwhelming number of booths and how many students were looking for these internships or careers. It really made me think about what I should be doing with my education to get a good job.
The next time I go to the Career Fair I am going to have more questions for the recruiters and prepare more by bringing my resumes and looking more professional.
The recruiter taught me that getting involved really is important and looks great for my resume, it may be repeated to me a thousand times, but it's because it really does count to be involved in clubs and organizations.
